If you need really accurate edges then fast box blur also works, essentially the same concept as all these other methods. Very useful for pixel art

Same thing can be done with a matte choker + fill + cc composite but it wont give as accurate edges as this other method does, useful in some cases though

Here’s an easy way to add a stroke/outline without using layer styles in AE. This gets around the issue of layer styles being calculated after everything else (motion blur especially)
