He manually masked 4 frames to clear out the background/make it green, and let the program generate everything inbetween. The tutorial included with the program shows it’s intended use is to stylize video, but as seen from this there’s plenty of other potential to be had with it.

Should note CC2018 and above you can change the individual pattern sizes via master properties, older versions you’ll need to duplicate the pattern comp and change the size with the slider in it. Besides that it should just work
