Agreed, if you’ve ever played around with doing only basic things like EQ and levelling (which should be done from the start anyway) you can really take your audio far. I do think it has something to do with preference which I don’t think is too much of a problem though.

For visuals I mostly mean complex from a technical standpoint, in regards to the final product visually looking complex that I can agree is not always a good thing to aim for

I think there’s a line between complicating and over-complicating. Complex audio/visuals are fine as long as there’s a clear focus and it’s not for sake of filler. Though that may only apply to visuals..? I mean my audio always just covers basic things since I can’t do much else
